Winter camp.

Just following on from the last post, I had a great weekend and hope you all enjoyed it as much as me. I too haven't been that tired in quite a long time, in fact I'm just recovering!

I'd like to thank everyone who was involved in my surprise investment. It really was a big surprise, and I'm looking forward to spending many more exciting, tired and muddy times with you all.

I'm so impressed with the behaviour and sense of camaraderie between you all, you are a credit to yourselves and a group to be proud of.

We're Back

Back from Winter Camp 09 at Thornthwaite. That is the most tired I have been after a camp in a long time. I was almost too tired to buy a pint in the Half Moon.

Anyhow, those people who came to get involved and enjoy themselves seemed to do just that. The adults running the camp enjoyed it a great deal too. Stephe Powell would be proud.

I have a couple of very muddy things in the back of my car that I will be showing to the masses on Thursday night to see if we have any claimants. I have had 2 reports of missing trainers, so if you got home with more footwear than you took could you please bring back the surplus on Thursday so it can be returned to its rightful owners.

Here are a few photos to tide you over until I can get hold of everyone else's:

Winter Camp

Preparations are under way for our annual Winter Scout Camp. Rooms have been allocated, menu and patrols are sorted.
A few final tweaks to the programme are underway, and as many of you have guessed, we are offering target shooting as one of the bases: This is an opportunity to test your skill using a .177 air rifle.
It is all about marksmanship; the ability to repeatedly place shots in as small an area as possible in the centre of the target. (so those who haven't got their forms back.... make sure you do!)

I would like to tell you more about what we are doing, but I feel it may spoil the excitement, except to say I have my camouflage jacket, trousers, balaclava, boots and socks all ready for 'kick the can'!
Don't tell anyone, but also we will be reinstating the game 'HIDE!'. If you are not familiar with the rules of HIDE then I suggest you better find someone who is!
See you all there and dont forget to pack your winter wollies!!

Kubb Pics

I promised them and here they are.  The first pictures of our public test game of Kubb in Redcar on Sunday.  Unfortunately the tide ended the game a bit too quickly so for the second time in two days we didn't complete the game.

I claim the moral victory.

Some kind of prize if you can work out any of the rules from the pictures alone.

Kubb Scout

Gavin and I braved the icy weather, went to the beach at Redcar and trialled our new game, Kubb.
Kubb? I hear echos around the room "Whats Kubb?", "tell me, tell me".
I would but, there are plenty of good resources here:
http://www.kubb.co.uk/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kubb
The question I'd be wanting to know is, why on earth we went all the way to the beach when we could have played it on the lawn, or in the snow!! Well, truthful answer is we could have, but didn't.

I wonder if we have prizes for 'Winter Camp Kubb Champions'?

Polling Stations

***SCOUTS HAVE YOUR SAY***

You're a very complimentary bunch and when we ask you which activities you enjoy most you tend to say you love them all.  So to find out what you really think I have set up a poll on our message boards here where you can vote for your favourite programme of last term.  It's a chance for you to let us know your thoughts - use it or we will decide.

Gangs of New Show

OK. I admit it. It was a tenuous link for the title.

Thursday will see us back in rehearsal for Gang Show 09. We usually wouldn't start quite so early, but with the prospect of our choreographer heading off into the sunset of a university career we need to get her ideas early so we can spend the next 9 months (count them) practising.

We also have to start warming up our singing voices ready for the event. The plan this time round is to prvovide every cast member with a CD of all the songs from the show so there is no excuse for not knowing every word. You can also practice your dance steps in front of the mirror. I know I will.

Ice Skating

Just remembered about ice skating tonight! A treat for the winning patrol for all their hard work in being best at everything! Is that right?
Unusually this evening we have no Explorers with us, you can tell it is exam time. I suppose that is a good thing as they are taking their education seriously, well done!
I've found somewhere to get my skates sharpened, but too late for tonight, so I'll be floundering around with the same old excuse..... 'its my skates, not me'. I wonder if they can be too sharp and I can use that excuse next time?
Anyway, lets hope its a good night, and well done to Cobras for being top point scorers!
